The Ethical Fashion Forum Global Source Expo

We have just come back this week from exhibiting again at the GSExpo, which took place this year at Sadlers Wells Theatre in London. As usual this was a fantastic event which showcased sustainable and ethical companies from around the world.

We made new contacts, and met so many designers, students and companies looking to do things a bit differently in the fashion world. We enjoyed meeting you all, and look forward to collaborating with you in the future.

Our fabrics were very well received and thank you all for your wonderful comments and your interest in our co-operative.

We have temporarily closed the Panchachuli U.K. store for a month while we re-organise and wait for our new stock to arrive. We have lots of lovely new colours and items arriving for this Autumn/Winter 2011/12, so please check back soon!

CARRIE PARRY

We are thrilled to introduce the new designs from Carrie Parry, which have been made using Panchachuli fabrics.

About the Designer

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Carrie Parry is a graduate of the prestigious Central St. Martins, University of the Arts, London, with a degree in Fashion Design with Marketing.

Carrie's design experience includes work with Johnathan Saunders, Zandra Rhodes, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Norma Kamali and Elaine Gold as well as costume for the Oscar winning film Memoirs of a Geisha and two seasons with the highly acclaimed vintage travelling Giffords Circus.

Since moving to New York, Carrie's passion for social and environmental responsibilty within the apparel and textile industry led her to Earth Pledge, a non-profit organisation, dedicated to educating the fashion industry on sustainable materials and processes, where she was instrumental in compiling the Future Fashion sustainable textile library.

In 2011 she launched her eponymous Carrie Parry label, the culmination of her pursuit to integrate her love of textiles, innovative and quality design with her commitment to environmentally conscious and ethical production. In her spare time Carrie pursues a graduate degree in Socially Responsible and Sustainable Apparel Business at the University of Delaware.

The end of 2010 saw the launch of the fabulous KOZA website

Koza offer a beautiful range of travel inspired accessories with an Indian flavour.

Based on the ancient book of the Mahabharata, the great epic poem of India, this inspired range of bags,stoles and shawls co-ordinate together to produce a stylish and matching set of travel items.

The pashmina shawls and stoles have been woven by the Panchachuli Women Weavers in India to produce an exclusive range for Koza, which double up as travel blankets or accessories when travelling.

The Ethical Fashion Source Expo, organised by Ethical Fashion Forum is the world's only annual industry trade show representing suppliers of ethical and fair trade fabrics, components, and manufacture to the fashion industry.

We are delighted that our online store is now ready and thank you to everyone who has been patiently waiting!

Although starting in a small way, with just a limited range of scarves and stoles, gradually over the next few months we will be adding more items. If however, there is something you would really like to purchase which isn't on the store just get in touch with us, and we will order it for you.

ETHICAL FASHION FORUM - GLOBAL SOURCING MARKETPLACE

We exhibited at the first ever EFF Global Sourcing Marketplace at Chelsea College of Art, which brought together over 30 ethical/eco suppliers from all over the world.
The event was very well attended by designers, retailers, buyers and students and it generated alot of interest in our beautiful range of fabrics.

This event followed on from the Spotlight on Sourcing series last Spring and it is great to see the EFF growing so well. The network has just had its 2000th member since it launched last Spring so congratulations all round.

Shared Talent India is an exciting cross cultural collaboration using directional design as a tool to promote the best in Indian sustainable textiles.
Come and hear from designers who took part in the project (Samant Chauhan, Gaurav Gupta (AKAARO), Anjana Janardhan and Shazia Saleem) share their experience of sourcing from India, this unique collaborative project and their vision of sustainability within the fashion industry.
Shared Talent India is a DEFRA and Indian government funded project being run by the Centre for Sustainable Fashion has brought together emerging design talent from the UK and India along with selected students from Amsterdam Fashion Institute, London College of Fashion and Pearl Academy of Fashion. In July 2009 the designers and students came together in New Delhi to take part in collaborative design and prototype development, using a variety of sustainable textiles, sourced from all over India. Selected outcomes are being showcased on the Monsoon Stand at Estethica at London Fashion Week in September 2009 and then Indian Fashion Week in October 2009. The panel discussion will be chaired by Jen Marsden – Home and Lifestyle Editor for the Green Guide.

We are really pleased to have received all our wonderful Winter stock from India. Our knitted pure pashmina scarves are now available in three extra colours, mustard, deep red and chocolate. Lots of fabulous new colours in the lambswool as well.

The scarves are available at Courtyard designer boutique in Guildford which is full of fabulous clothes and accessories. May - July 09

Panchachuli fabrics are chosen by the London College of Fashion - Centre for Sustainable Fashion for their Shared Talent India contest. In July the centre for Sustainable Fashion held a workshop in Delhi involving U.K. and India based designers working together to create an innovative and directional spring/summer collection, all made from sustainable Indian textiles. The resulting work will be showcased at London Fashion week in Sept 09 and India Fashion Week.

We supplied Himalayan Nettle, Chamoli ( Oak Silk & Sheepwool ) and Kasardevi lambswool fabric for this project and await the results.

We exhibit at the Ethical Fashion Forum in London during March, April and May as part of the Spotlight on Sourcing Programme which highlighted Sustainable Fabrics , Working with Small Co-operatives and Sourcing from India.

This highly informative series of events was part of a series of seminars and masterclasses called FASHION + Sustainable Sourcing for Fashion.

For the Ethical Fashion Forum sustainable and ethical practices represent an approach which maximises benefits for people while minimising impact on the environment.
